South Devon Potting Survey

In April 2008 a Devon Sea Fisheries Committee survey of the potting effort along the South Devon coast commenced. This survey is looking at the number of fishermen involved, areas fished, number of pots worked and catch per unit effort of the fishing vessels involved. Fishermen have been very supportive of the survey which will look at the productivity of the fishery as well as its future viability. DSFC Officers are spending days at sea with fishermen to gather further data on catch being retained as well as the number of juveniles being returned to sea. Brown crab, lobster and spider crab fisheries are being assessed.
